KUALA LUMPUR - Describing allegations thrown at him as baseless, former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has threatened legal action against all perpetrators, including possibly Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said that the many insinuations against him were serious slander and tarnished his good name.

The Bersatu president also said that the accusations were all politically motivated aimed at putting him in a bad light.

"The accusations thrown at me were all to defame me so that the people will see me as a bad person," he told reporters after launching the Tan Sri Muhyiddin Charity Golf Foundation and blood donation campaign at the Mid Valley Megamall today.

"I think this is because we are going to have the state elections soon, and they want to win over the people, this is all politics and I believe they will not win," he added.

Allegations over misappropriation of funds under the Covid-19 Stimulus Package under Muhyiddin's administration were initially raised by Anwar, shortly after assuming the post last November. While Muhyiddin did not mention Anwar specifically, this could indicate that the current Prime Minister could be among those being served legal notice by Muhyiddin.

"Does the Prime Minister not know these things or about these slanders from the others were merely to tarnish my name? "If the Prime Minister has made the accusations, he should prove it. My lawyer is looking at taking legal actions (against those who make baseless allegations) and we would not be stopping at that alone,” said Muhyiddin.

He also explained that his party has made police report regarding all fake allegations against him and Bersatu and he will let the police investigate further.

"I will not intervene with the investigation to show that we are on the right side," he stated.

He was commenting on allegations against him, including the RM300 million allegedly received by Bersatu and linked to the Covid-19 Economic Stimulus Package.

Muhyiddin Yassin has given his statement to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in connection with investigations into funds of RM300 million linked to his party.

The Perikatan Nasional chairman had his statement recorded at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya on Feb 16.
