Radical, extreme to question legitimacy of Penang, Guan Eng tells Sanusi

KUALA LUMPUR - The Dewan Rakyat was in a momentary uproar when former Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng slammed the actions of Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor who questioned the legitimacy of the state of Penang, alleging the latter to be fueling extremist sentiments.
Guan Eng (PH-Bagan) said he was disappointed over Muhammad Sanusi's statement because it hurt the feelings of 1.7 million people of Penang by doubting and disputing the state's sovereignty.
He said the Federal Constitution has validated and given legislative power to Penang as a sovereign state under the Article 1(2).
"On what platform and law can the Kedah Menteri Besar doubt the sovereignty of the state of Penang? He is not a legal expert.
"He should seek advice from legal experts before opening his mouth to attack the sovereignty of the State of Penang.
"Indirectly, he disputed the authority of the state leaders appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
"I think this is radical and irresponsible. I hope my friends (members of parliament) can ask him to withdraw the barbaric and irresponsible accusations...I ask him to withdraw the accusations,” he said during the 2023 Budget debate in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday.
