KUALA LUMPUR - Former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin and five of his family members have filed an application for leave to initiate a judicial review and an order to halt the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) investigation against them.

He filed the legal action at the High Court, here, yesterday.

Daim, 86, his wife, Toh Puan Naimah Khalid, 67, and their four children, Asnida, 63; Md Wira Dani, 46; Muhammed Amir Zainuddin, 26; Muhammed Amin Zainuddin, along with the Ilham Tower filed the application through the law firm of former attorney-general Tommy Thomas.

In the judicial review, they named MACC and the public prosecutor as the first and second respondents.

The former senior politician is seeking a declaration that MACC and its officers have no reasonable grounds to investigate the first to sixth applicants and/or initiate prosecution for any offences under the MACC Act 2009 or the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing, and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA).

Yesterday, Naimah and her children were summoned to the MACC headquarters to provide statements.

On Dec 22 last year, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that there were no tricks, malicious intentions, partiality, or bias in MACC's actions in seizing Ilham Tower, reportedly owned by Daim's family.

On Dec 30, MACC confirmed that Daim was being investigated based on information from the Pandora Papers since February 2023.
