Scandal-laden BN politician temporarily relieved of duties after ex-wife's viral claims - Dr Akmal
Dr Akmal said the decision was made to allow Shahrul the necessary space to address his personal matters amid the growing public attention surrounding the issue.

SHAH ALAM - Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Akmal Saleh has confirmed that Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth Treasurer Datuk Shahrul Nasrun Kamarudin will be temporarily relieved of his duties following a viral controversy sparked by his ex-wife’s allegations involving prostitutes, OnlyFans subscriptions and a secret sex den.
Dr Akmal said the decision was made to allow Shahrul the necessary space to address his personal matters amid the growing public attention surrounding the issue.
“For now, Datuk Shahrul will be temporarily relieved of his duties as BN Youth Treasurer to allow him time to address his personal matters.
“Regarding his private affairs, we will not intervene and will give him the space he needs to resolve them,” he told Sinar Daily when contacted.

The Allegations
The controversy began on Oct 28, when Shahrul’s ex-wife, entrepreneur and influencer Datin Amyera Zainal, made a series of claims on her Instagram Stories.
Amyera alleged that her ex-husband who is a BN Youth leader, frequently hired prostitutes, subscribed to OnlyFans and kept a collection of sex toys, which she claimed were the real reasons behind their divorce.
“This is a teaser of why I divorced him. He wanted to prove to netizens that he was looking for a modest and veiled woman, just to look good. In reality, he likes to subscribe to OnlyFans,” she wrote.
She also accused Shahrul of renting a secret place to meet other women, claiming he used it to avoid being detected.
“He rented a special place to bring in his mistresses and prostitutes. He would go there every day during working hours because it is near his friend’s office.
“Since he could not go to hotels anymore because I had his location, he would not get caught there. And this is not even the first place; it is the second,” she claimed.
Amyera also posted photos of sex toys, condoms and lubricants, claiming they belonged to her ex-husband along with screenshots of messages allegedly from individuals hired by him.
She said she decided to come forward after feeling that certain parties were trying to damage her reputation.
“He just wants people to think I am the bad one because I am sexy. That is his only motive, but wrong move. I came prepared. I am not the kind who disturbs others, but if you mess with me, that is your biggest mistake.
“If I were to post about all your disgusting behaviour from the start until our divorce, it would not even finish in a month. So, if you know you are filthy, better stay quiet,” she added.

Shahrul’s Response
Later that night, Shahrul issued a statement on Instagram, denying the allegations and expressing regret that private issues had become public.
He also defended his fiancee, Meerween Hanees Natasha Meeat, stressing that she had no involvement in the scandal.
“I want to stress that my fiancee, Meerween Hanees Natasha, has no connection whatsoever with the issues currently going viral.
“Our relationship only began after I was officially divorced and held the status of a single man,” he said.
Shahrul admitted that his past marriage legally ended on July 30, 2024 and said he had made mistakes but viewed them as lessons.
“As a human being, I am not free from making mistakes. I do not deny my shortcomings and what happened in my past marriage is a valuable life lesson,” he said.
“However, I truly regret that something which should have remained private is now being made a public discussion.
“I understand the anger and disappointment my ex-wife may feel about what happened. I hold no hatred or resentment towards her and pray she finds peace, strength and happiness in her life ahead,” he added.
In the same post, Shahrul also included a legal reminder referencing Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), warning that offenders found guilty of cyberbullying or spreading false information could face fines up to RM50,000, imprisonment up to one year or both.
Right after Shahrul issued the formal statement denying the allegations and hinting at possible legal action under the Communications and Multimedia Act, Amyera fired back, mocking what she described as an attempt to intimidate her into silence.
The scandal has ignited intense debate across social media, with many questioning the credibility of a political figure caught in such a personal controversy.
Despite his public apology, netizens continued to doubt whether Shahrul’s position in BN Youth is still tenable, with growing calls for him to resign.
