Maxis supports communities with different needs this Raya
SHAH ALAM - Maxis has rolled out several initiatives to bring cheer to B40 families, students and people with disabilities, in conjunction with the Raya festivities.
Its chief corporate affairs officer Mariam Bevi Batcha said festive seasons are special occasions for Maxis to engage with various groups of Rangkaian Malaysia nationwide.
"Our outreach programmes take deep root in the lives of the people we serve, and we hope that our humble contribution will have a positive impact on these communities and empower them through digitalisation, no matter their unique and diverse needs,” she said.
In collaboration with Persatuan OKU Sentral, Maxis will also be conducting a special session of its eKelas Usahawan programme for people with disabilities.
The programme comprises a series of digital workshops with a practical and hands-on approach to equip entrepreneurs with the right digital tools and skills to grow their respective business and expand their income opportunities.
Among the modules developed include tips and basic skills on marketing, digital photography, copy writing and planning for marketing and advertising campaigns via online and social media platforms.
OKU Sentral president Senator Datuk Ras Adiba binti Mohd Radzi said persons with disabilities (PWD) are extraordinary people who possess different talents and that it was one of the reasons why they were the early adopters of technology which had enabled them to do more.
"It is inspiring to see how we can empower them to expand their income opportunities and achieve new possibilities with the right digital tools.
"We are happy to be collaborating with Maxis to bring positive impact to this community and ensure that they are not left behind," she said at the launch of the Maxis Raya campaign.
In addition, over 150 boxes of food were distributed to B40 households in Pasir Mas and Rantau Panjang, Kelantan, who were impacted by the floods.
The food boxes also contained assorted Raya cookies in supporting micro-businesses of women entrepreneurs from the same communities.
This was coordinated by the Keluarga Malaysia Digital Economy Centres (PEDi) Kampung Repek, Kelantan.
Kampung Tersang resident Syed Zainal Bin Syed Mamat who was one of the recipients of the food box said he was grateful for the aid provided to the community in Kampung Tersang, Rantau Panjang, which had made their Raya more meaningful.
“I want to thank Maxis for helping families who were impacted by the floods," he said.
Additionally, 50 SMK Padang Garuda, Pahang students from the B40 communities received school supplies, along with access to the Maxis eKelas programme.
The programme is Maxis’ flagship community programme which provides access to quality education for Primary four to Form five students through live tutorials, group learning, competitions and digital content that is aligned with the National school syllabus.

The school's principal Fadzilah Mohamed Tahir expressed his gratitude to Maxis for supporting the students in need.
“We would like to thank Maxis for contributing 50 calculators to our students in need as many of the students here are not well to do.
“This contribution will help them in their studies and exams, especially in Mathematics,” he said.
