SHAH ALAM - Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) final year public relations (PR) students or better known as the PRestige have organised a programme to help the needy.

The programme called U&Me was held in collaboration with the Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK).

Through the programme, more than 300 homeless people and B40 families in the Klang Valley would gain access to essential items and food distributions.

The series of activities focused on three core areas of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal namely zero hunger, good health and well-being as well as reduced inequalities.

PRestige aimed to achieve its end goal which was to encourage an inclusive and empowering society for all, through the programme.

Supported by sponsors such as Hamadaya Sauces, Ruang Lima Tujuh, Diamonis HQ, Gula Cakery and Faiza Sdn Bhd, the 23 students from class MC242S5A delivered dry provisions to the door steps of underprivileged families and distribute meal packs to the homeless at Medan Tuanku and Jalan Pudu in Kuala Lumpur alongside local singer Farisha Iris.

Final year students from the College of Computing, Informatics and Media, UiTM Shah Alam or better known as PRestige, led by Sofiah Elisha Ahmad Husaini, under the guidance of Abuzar Abdul Halim.

The activities also included free haircut services to the homeless through a collaborative effort with K&K Brothers Trading Sdn Bhd.

Hamadaya & Heritage Foods Group marketing vice president Lili Ho said to be able to help underprivileged communities was a blessing to the company.

“As a food company, we believe in being an agent of change by lending a feeding hand because everyone should have access to their fair share of food, regardless of the environment that they live in.

“We share a huge gratitude to the PR students of UiTM Shah Alam for providing us with this opportunity that allows us to be a part of a good cause in making sure that these people are taken care of in terms of sustenance,” she said.

Meanwhile, Prestige had also organised a ‘Public Relations Image and Reputation’ forum with the aim to invent reputable public relations practitioners in the future.

The three hours forum featured Chief Executive of iOli Communications Sdn Bhd Yan Lim, an award-winning female icon who bagged Outstanding Asean Woman Entrepreneur at the AseanWomen Entrepreneur of the Year Awards in 2019.

The forum helped students to have a deeper understanding of the public from the viewpoint of a professional in the public relations sector and how the PR world had radically transformed.

The programme’s project leader Alif Aquim said there were a lot of bittersweet moments to ensure the forum was held successfully.

“I can proudly say that my classmates did a splendid job, with everyone taking their responsibilities seriously.

“We hurdled past multiple challenges, twists and turns but the fighting spirit and perseverance that each of them possesses is commendable,” he said.

The forum was supported by two sponsors, Ngopi and Anytime Sandwich, which delivered 30 cups of coffee and a box of sandwiches to be distributed to the attendees who came.
