MELAKA - Authorities are tracking down a man who allegedly pushed a snake into a moving vehicle, leaving a young woman traumatised and nearly causing an accident near the Stadthuys Building in Banda Hilir.

The Historic Melaka City Council (MBMB) said it is taking the matter seriously and has launched efforts to identify the individual involved.

Melaka Mayor Datuk Shadan Othman said the council has never approved any licence for street performers involving animals due to safety and hygiene concerns.

“We are tracking the individual and if identified, compound action will be taken. We are also investigating whether he is someone who had previously submitted an application for a licence to MBMB.

“MBMB does not allow street performance activities involving animals, regardless of whether the animals are venomous or harmless,” he said.

Shadan also reminded that street performers must prioritise public safety and obtain proper permits while supporting the state’s tourism activities.

The incident reportedly involved 21-year-old sales assistant Nik Hanis Allysa Abdullah, who said she was left in shock after a man approached her car and forced a snake into the cabin through an open window.

She said the incident happened around 11pm while she was parked in front of the Stadthuys Building with a friend and her younger sibling after work.

“I had repeatedly asked the man not to put the snake into the car, but he still pushed it towards me until I cried.

“Due to panic, I opened the car door and lifted one leg to avoid the snake, but I forgot to shift the gear which was still in drive mode.

“At that time, the car moved forward while one of my legs was outside. Luckily, nothing worse happened,” she said.

She urged the relevant authorities to take action, saying the act was not only frightening but also dangerous.

Police confirmed they have yet to receive any official report regarding the viral incident.
