IN a world that often equates a woman’s worth to her output, Malaysian actress and singer Diana Danielle and psychiatrist Dr Iman Mohamed Ali are here to remind mothers that value doesn’t lie in constant productivity — it lies in presence, self-kindness, and knowing when to pause.

For mothers juggling careers, families, and expectations — often all at once — it’s easy to fall into the trap of tying one’s self-worth to achievements or checklists. Diana Danielle wants to dismantle that mindset.

“As a mother, to all the mothers out there, I would like to emphasise that your worth is not directly tied to your productivity,” she shared earnestly.

Instead of simply pushing through, Diana encourages women to pause and reflect on the systems and routines they’ve created for themselves

Through this meaningful self-reflection, identifying outliers and changing them if they’re no longer serving a positive purpose would end up a breeze.

“Look back at the commitments that you have and try to look at the patterns that you have already set for yourself and see which are not working for you and restructure because you are the system.

“As a mother, you are the heart of the family. Life doesn't just happen to you. You are directly able to impact your children, yourself and the people around you,” she clarified.

Furthermore, it is an unfortunate by-product of low self-esteem that women nowadays struggle to give themselves credit for their own feats.

Diana's message is a call to action — not to do more, but to do better for oneself.

“You actually have more influence and power than you give yourself credit for,” she said.

Echoing Diana’s sentiments, psychiatrist Dr Iman urged mothers to practice self-compassion before anything else.

She acknowledges how many mothers stay silent in their struggles, but reminds them that seeking help is not weakness — it’s courage.

“I think the first thing I would say would be: be kind to yourself first. Be very, very kind to yourself.

“Speak up, reach out, ask for help if you need it. Get the support. If you say you can't get the support from the people around you, definitely come for professional help — it's there. We will be there for you,” she said.

While mothers nowadays are increasingly being tunnel-visioned into their work and commitment, health and personal growth would unfortunately be cast by the wayside.

As such, Dr Iman also emphasised the necessity of boundaries and personal time, especially for all the working mothers out there.

“Take the next step, make that doctor's appointment, make a change in your lifestyle and make sure you have time for yourself.

"Create time. You have to actively create ‘me’ time for yourself. Take breaks and just be kind to yourself,” she urged.
